Les villes européennes pour une politique d’accueil envers les réfugiées

Palermo – Italie

“From the Sea to the City Consortium” hosts the “Conference of Cities for a Welcoming Europe” from the 25th to the 26th of June. City representatives, mayors and the private people are welcome to join forces to create a European network of cities, municipalities and civil society and to advocate for an active role of cities in European migration policy. This network wants to increase the visibility of welcoming municipalities at the EU level and places human rights at the center of future migration politics.

Refugees and migrants not only face a partially xenophobic and racist society, but are also particularly affected by structural racism. There is an undeniable connection between refugee policy and racism. Discrimination against refugees and migrants can only be combated through welcome culture and refugee policy based on human rights. ECCAR's aim is to fight against discrimination as well as racism and therefore ECCAR stands for a welcoming policy. No wonder, many cities of ECCAR are already safe harbors. ECCAR and “From the Sea to the City” are connected through Frankfurt, the former office of ECCAR and current coordination office of the Consortium. The two days event starts with a joint statement from EU mayors proposing human right based migration and reception policies.
