In June, the ECCAR Steering Committee met in the city of Wrocław. More than 60 ECCAR cities followed the invitation of ECCAR vice-president Bartłomiej Ciążyński and his team. “ECCAR is the perfect platform, the platform in which we have brave cities that are committed to fight against racism and discrimination and we can do it because we are not alone and we are together in it” – with this words ECCAR president Benedetto Zacchiroli (City of Bologna) opened the Steering Committee 2023. Two days of important discussions and impulses around topics of antisemitism, anti-Muslim racism, BIPoC empowerment in ECCAR, the ACTION project and many more showed the importance of creating platforms for exchange on the local level. The official opening remarks of Joyce Monteiro (Coordinator UNESCO ICCAR) and Katharina von Schnurbein (European Commission Coordinator on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life) underlined the crucial role of local authorities to support concrete actions for inclusive and equal societies on the ground.
Benedetto Zacchiroli re-elected as president: ECCAR has a new old president. Congratulations to Benedetto Zacchiroli who was re-elected for a third term as ECCAR president for the City of Bologna during the Steering Committee.
Welcome to new member cities: In Wrocław the ECCAR Steering Committee voted for the admission of four new member cities. Welcome to the City of Hofheim (Germany), the District of Düren (Germany), the City of Clermont-Ferrand (France) and the City of Ingelheim (Germany).
