General information
Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia.
In 2025 the population of Cagliari is estimated to be approximately just under 150,000 inhabitants:
The Municipality of Cagliari shares ECCAR’s values, principles and aims and recognises the need to implement local policies to successfully combat racism and any other type of discrimination and to promote a culture of inclusion, in addition to strengthening those already in place.
The biggest challenge is to break down stereotypes and cognitive biases of any kind, which can often lead to discrimination against the most marginalized communities, in order to make the city of Cagliari a place where there is no room for discrimination.
Day of Remembrance of the Genocide of the Sinti and Roma 2025 in Cagliari
The Municipality of Cagliari organised a commemorative event on 2nd August 2025 to mark the Day of Remembrance for the Genocide of the Sinti and Roma communities during the Second World War, known as Samudaripen. The day began with a meeting at the Town Hall where the municipality’s initiatives promoting equality, inclusion, and participation for Roma and Sinti communities were presented. In the evening, a public concert was held in one of Cagliari’s main squares, featuring a performance by the Alexian Group alongside soloists from the European Orchestra for Peace.
